Architectural design

The first part of the building gives back to the people of the community and the neighbourhood by offering a service. The social hub, disguised as a coffee bar, brings people together in a non-dominant way. The day-care offers an in-house or nearby place for children on the scale of the neighbourhood and offers an enclosed private garden for the children. The upstairs maker spaces are easily accessible, also on the level of reservations and checking in. All functions can benefit from each other's proximity. On both sides, parallel to the building, the double facade shapes a covered passageway for pedestrians. Leading to the entrances of the building, they also form a connection on masterplan-level. This way all sorts of passage make sure the liveability and social engagement.

The middle part of the building consists of the up cycling factory. This area is spatially designed with the focus on adaptability. The secondary CLT structure provides a frame in the double height space to carry additional storage platforms. A split level brings back the human sense in this large space and doubles storage space. It also creates a platform space that has an overview over the factory without being in it. On the right side of the section there is the toy-, material- and tool library. These are directly connected with the up cycling factory to promote and facilitate the circular use of materials. In between these spaces, the bridge goes through and bends around the up cycling factory. This way, outsiders can have a glimpse of the ongoing processes.

The ultimate part of the building differs from the other parts. The facade is replaced by a polycarbonate translucent panelling and embraces the urban farm. However, this place is not your regular greenhouse. The structure can accommodate hydroponics towers.

Placed upon the basin, as mentioned in the masterplan paragraph within the water section, the system can provide fruit and vegetables for a large amount of people. When the rainwater basin would be empty, the sloped roof structure can collect rainwater.

Picnic spots next to the orchard are nice meeting places. The bottom part of the facade can be shoved up to let airstream in.
